New Teacher Induction Program

The New Teacher Induction Program for Secondary Mathematics supports middle and high school teachers new to mathematics education. First and second year mathematics teachers are invited to participate. Experienced teachers who will be teaching secondary mathematics for the first time are also invited to apply.

Participants attend monthly Saturday workshops throughout the school year. These sessions provide a format to share ideas, materials, and concerns, deepen mathematical knowledge, model good teaching, and promote collegiality.

Each participant is assigned a coach. These coaches are all former middle or high school mathematics teachers. Coaches meet with teachers several times per semester to help plan lessons, observe, collaborate, and discuss concerns including classroom management, instructional strategies, motivation, maximizing classroom participation, assessment techniques and more. The coaches co-facilitate the monthly Saturday workshops.

Participants also receive support in mentoring their students in order to build relationships with students, parents, the school, and the broader community. Research shows that these relationships help teachers feel connected to their school community and help retain them in the classroom.

The tentative Saturday workshops dates for the 2020-2021 school year are:

  • August 8, 2020
  • September 19, 2020
  • October 24, 2020
  • November 14, 2020
  • December 5, 2020
  • January 23, 2021 MEAD Conference (7:30 AM - 2:30 PM)
  • February 13, 2021
  • March 6, 2021
  • April 10, 2021
  • May 1, 2021 (Graduation, 5:00 PM - 700 PM)

These workshops will meet 8:30 AM -12:30 PM unless otherwise noted or notified.

Adjustments and pivots for remote learning environments will be made if necessary.  Content and delivery will be revised to match the changing landscape and the needs of the Induction Teachers, where they are. Saturday workshops would be converted to Online Zoom sessions.  Regular coaching meetings would also take place in Zoom meetings.

Preference is given to teachers from partnering districts.  Teachers who teach math exclusively will be given priority over teachers with split assignments. Participants earn an $800 stipend for their FULL participation.

Please share this flyer with potential candidates and encourage them to apply!
