Please join the CRR in our efforts to honor Arthur's legacy through the Herbst Family Endowment.

Arthur Herbst loved to learn, achieve and compete. Arthur attended Harvard, went to medical school, and completed his residency while also spending time in the Navy as line officer.  Arthur was recognized for his work in the medical field with the Borden Research Award and the Francis Stone Burns Award for research by the American Cancer Society. He worked to support the University of Arizona by serving as Chair of the Visiting Committee of the College of Science, leveraging his experience as a clinician, scientist and administrator. Having always felt grateful for the scholarships that enabled him to attend college and medical school, Arthur and his wife Lee, established scholarship funds at Harvard, the University of Chicago and the University of Arizona.

The Herbst Family Foundation, created by Lee and Arthur Herbst, provides an endowment to CRR to provide Saturday workshops for elementary, middle, and high school teachers. These Herbst Enrichment Mathematics Seminars (HEMS) are facilitated by exemplary classroom teachers who present meaningful content and model excellent teaching strategies. Due to the generosity of Lee and Arthur Herbst, teachers from partnership schools/districts receive stipends for their participation.

The Herbst Family Foundation has left a large footprint on the Tucson community. Arthur passed away in June of 2023, but through a generous donation to the Herbst Family Endowment, the Tucson community can come together to honor Arthur Herbst and join with educators across Tucson in support of the CRR's outreach services to Tucson's community of teachers and schools. Support the Herbst Family Foundation by making a donation.
